Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a cricket.
The stockings were hung on the mantle with care,
In hopes that Santa would soon be there.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar cookies danced in their heads.
And momma in her Christmas pj's, and I in my undies.
Had just settled our brains for a short winter's nap.
When down the stairs there arose such a clatter,
we sprang from our bed to see what was the matter.
Down the stairs we flew like a flash,
flicked up the switch to turn the lights on.
The room was bustling with energy and joy,
the smiles and wide eyes gave way
to three happy kids.
They were dressed all in Jammie's from head to toe,
so happy were they that Santa had come.
He'd eaten their cookies and tasted the nog.
The curtains were open to the patio outside,
revealing half eaten carrots and a surprise.
The children all ran to see with their eyes.
Where Santa's red hat lay on the cold winter's ground.
Their eyes how they twinkled, their dimples how merry!
They couldn't believe it they cried.
Santa had left his red hat on the ground,
along with half eaten carrots they found!
Each year they remember this story to tell,
and each year they try on Santa's red hat,
and remember the night when Santa came,
in hopes that he'll come again on a warm winter's night.
Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night!
